Myopia Management in London, Ontario

Myopia (nearsightedness) is becoming more common in children, and it is more than just blurry distance vision. We offer clinically proven treatments that help slow the progression of myopia and reduce the risk of serious eye complications in the future.

What Is Myopia?

When the shape of the eye elongates, light focuses in front of the retina instead of on it, making distant objects appear blurry. It often starts between ages 6 and 10 and tends to worsen through the teen years.

You may notice your child:

  • Squinting to see far away

  • Sitting close to screens

  • Struggling to read the board at school

  • Needing stronger glasses every year

Myopia is a progressive condition, but it is manageable with the right care.

Managing myopia is about more than updating prescriptions

High myopia increases the risk of serious eye conditions like retinal detachment, glaucoma, and early macular changes, even in young adults. The longer myopia progresses, the higher that risk becomes.

Controlling progression early:

  • Reduces future eye health risks

  • Improves day-to-day visual comfort

  • Helps kids avoid very strong prescriptions later in life

Who is a Suitable Candidate for Myopia Control?

We typically recommend starting between ages 6–17. Your child may benefit from myopia management if they:

  • Are experiencing fast prescription increases.

  • Have a parent with high myopia.

  • Have early-onset nearsightedness.

  • Are motivated to avoid very strong glasses later.

  • Are struggling with distance vision at school.

We will start with a detailed myopia control assessment and walk you through every step.
